100 Army National Guard soliders arrive to a big welcomePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- One hundred National Guard soldiers are back in Arizona this morning after spending the better part of a year in Afghanistan.
Family and friends had flags ready and all the posters in place for their loved ones' arrival Sunday.
Joanne Cummings was waiting for her husband, First Sgt. John Cummings. He was returning from his second tour.
"He's been gone for a very long time and a lot of things have happened since he's been gone," she said. "It'd be great to have somebody help out with the yard work again."
The big moment, although delayed by 90 minutes, finally arrived, and even normally outgoing Guardsmen were left speechless by the reunion.
"I can't really describe it to be honest," said Specialist Shawn Allgood. "There's too much emotion."
The troops provided both voice and data communications to task forces in Afghanistan.
