Registered sex offender found after vanishing from Chandler home

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A registered sex offender who had been missing since Tuesday afternoon was found safe in Mesa.

Vito Duda, 74, was last seen by his adult son at their Chandler home, which is located just west of Alma School Road between Warner and Ray roads, at about 2 p.m. When Duda's son returned about midnight, his father was gone.

Detective Seth Tyler of the Chandler Police Department said officers conducted a thorough search of the immediate neighborhood, both on the ground and from the air, and Wednesday morning asked for the public's help to locate him. On Thursday afternoon, police said Duda was found in Mesa.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Sex Offender InfoCenter, Duda is a Level 2 (intermediate) offender. He was convicted of molesting a child in the early 1990s in Maricopa County.
