Free dog-training tipsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- While dog train might sound easy in theory, the actual practice can be more difficult than anticipated. It doesn't have to be, though.
With the help of Booster and Secret, Wendi Faircloth from Villa La Paws Dog Training Academy shared some basic tips with 3TV's Scott Pasmore.
She says the first thing you have to do is teach the dog to learn. After that, everything else should fall into place. You don't even have to start when the dog is young, Faircloth said.
"Old dogs can learn new tricks," she explained.
She offered several suggestions to help dog owners get started.
1. Get the dog's attention.
2. Create a reward system.
3. Set regular play time for you and your dog.
4. Make yourself more important than the environment.
5. Schedule an activity outside of the dog park.
Free Canine Training Day takes place Saturday, Jan. 7, noon-3 p.m. at Villa La Paws Dog Training Academy, 10630 N. 32nd St., Phoenix.
