Saguaro High School football coach canned

Posted: Updated:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. --  Saguaro High School announced Thursday that after five years, John Sanders is no longer head coach of the school's football team.

The school called a meeting Thursday night to answer parents and players questions about why the coach was canned, but the District remained tight-lipped - saying this was a personnel issue and couldn't be shared.

There's speculation that the coach's decision to bench his starters at this year's blow out loss to Chaparral High School may have played a role in the decision. Players say that shouldn't be the case.

The school told parents Sanders will retain his position as a teacher with Saguaro High School.

Calls to Sanders were not returned by news time.
