PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are investigating an attempted abduction after a man reportedly grabbed an 11-year-old girl on her way to school Tuesday morning.

According to Sgt. Trent Crump, the girl and her 8-year-old brother were walking near 40th Street and Palm Lane on their way to Griffith Elementary School when a man approached them from behind.

The girl told police that the man grabbed her, took her behind a vacant building and threw her down.

Crump said the girl was able to escape and the siblings ran back home. They told their parents what happened and police were called.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s wearing dirty white pants and a black T-shirt. He also had a large tattoo on his left forearm.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department.
