Parents accused of duct-taping children, posting photos online

COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. -- Investigators in Northern Arizona say two parents wrapped their children in duct tape and posted pictures of them online.

Commander Rex Gilliland of the Coconino County Sheriff's Office says Kayla Almuina and Frankie Almuina were arrested and charged with child abuse. They say one of Kayla's Facebook friends anonymously called Arizona's Child Abuse Hotline after finding pictures of the bound children online.

According to investigators, the couple's 2-year-old and 10-month-old were bound with duct tape around their wrists and ankles. Their mouths were also taped shut.

"They indicated they did this as a joke," Gilliland said. "But there was fear on the children's faces in the pictures. ... I don't know how anybody can rationalize taping a child's mouth and then binding their hands and feet."

Coconino County investigators said they have never seen anything like this before and would not be releasing the pictures.

CPS placed the children, who did not seem to be physically injured, with a relative.

The Almuinas appeared in court Thursday morning, each charged with two counts of child abuse.
