TUSD loses Ethnic Studies appealPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A major setback for TUSD, the district has lost its appeal of a state official's ruling against the Ethnic Studies program.
Tuesday, a judge upheld Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal's decision to suspend the program.
What's more damaging, the judge approved withholding 10% of TUSD's state funding until the district complies with the law's interpretation by suspending Ethnic Studies courses.
Critics claim the curriculum portrays white people as oppressing Latinos. Supporters of the program say the shut down is an outright attack on Arizona's Hispanic population.
