PHOENIX -- A Phoenix woman has been sentenced for leaving her child in a hot car while she went shopping.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Robert Gottsfield sentenced Sandra Holguin, 33, Thursday to 12 months probation and 30 days deferred jail.

Holguin was arrested in July after police said she left her 2-year-old child in her car for about 40 minutes while she went shopping in Tolleson.

Passersby saw the girl and tried to get her out of the vehicle. Police officers arrived and removed the girl from the car. She was checked by paramedics and was released into the custody of her grandmother.
