Gifford's office distributes Christmas cards at VA hospitalPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Last year, Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, personally delivered cards to hospitalized veterans in Tucson. This year, of course that was not a possibility, but that didn't stop her office from carrying on.
The congresswoman's staff delivered over 3500 cards to veterans. Most of the cards were handmade by children at Tucson area schools as part of class projects.
"It is important, you know, we don't ask for them to go over there, they go over on their own. A lot of 'em volunteer and if it wasn't for them, who knows what out country would be like," said organizer Lucille Lombardo.
Some of the cards will also go to troops deployed in Southern Arizona and overseas.
Giffords' office says it's important to remind members of the military their sacrifice is appreciated.
