Tucson accidents: Pedestrian struck and killed; Employee chases beer shoplifters

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A woman struck and killed while crossing Oracle Road near milepost 73.

It happened Monday night around 8:30.

DPS says 17-year-old Wyatt Powell was driving south in a Nissan pickup truck when he hit 61-year-old Susan Melanson.

Melanson did not survive her injuries.

Powell was not hurt and the collision is still under investigation.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A beer run resulted in a high speed chase in mid-town Tuesday.

Two people walked out of the shell gas station on grant road near the interstate without paying for their beer.

That's when a store employee got in his car and chased them down.

The pursuit ended when the suspect's car hit another vehicle and ran over a fire hydrant.

TPD says a woman and 2 or 3 men got out and ran away before cops arrived.  No arrests have been made, but the incident is still under investigation.
