Tucson headlines: Vet gets new backyard; Salvation Army needs toys

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Vietnam war veteran now gets to enjoy a beautiful backyard, thanks to some local help.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers and Green Valley firefighters helped clean up Ron Williams' home in Sahuarita Monday.

Ron is recovering from three amputation surgeries and since his wife is helping him out, there was no one to take care of the yard.

Ron and Kate's home will also get some upgrades thanks to a $1300 weatherization grant which Habitat Tucson will match.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Salvation Army kicked off its annual toy distribution week Monday.

Each year the program collects thousands of gifts for local children in need It's the city's largest toy assistance program.

Families in the program are selected through an application process.  It serves more than 2,000 every year.
