Grandmother dies after car hits her, grandsonPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Valley grandmother has died after a car hit her as she crossed the street with her grandson Sunday afternoon.
It happened at about noon at 12th Street and Devonshire Avenue, which is just north of Indian School Road, in Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, Belva R. Masaquaptewa, 64, was crossing the street mid-block with her 5-year-old grandson when the car hit them. They were not in a crosswalk.
The 67-year-old driver of the car stopped and stayed at the scene. Police said there were no indications of impairment and he was not charged with any violation.
Masaquaptewa was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The little boy was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he was determined to have minor injuries.
