MESA, Ariz -- Mesa police are asking for help from the public as they try to locate a woman who has been missing for nearly a week.

Sophia Marie Vargas, 28, was last seen Monday at 8 p.m. at her cousin’s home in the 1100 block of West Emelita, which is just northeast of Southern Avenue and Alma School Road in Mesa.

Vargas told her cousin she was going to get together with some people she met on the Internet. While it's not clear if she made it to that meeting, Vargas sent a text message to her cousin at about 11 p.m., saying she had been drinking and was feeling nauseous.

Nobody has heard from Vargas since then. She hasn't shown up for work or school. Police say Vargas has been depressed over the loss of her sister but hasn't expressed any intentions of harming herself.

Vargas is Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a red sweater and blue jeans. She drives a light-brown 1995 Jaguar SJ6 with the Arizona license plate AAW2726.

Any with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
