SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Three dogs attacked a Sierra Vista woman Wednesday morning.

The woman was walking her Australian Shepherd on Risner Boulevard near Central Avenue when two boxers and a pit bull broke out of a yard and started attacking her dog, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office. When the woman tried to stop the attack, all three dogs turned on her.

A neighbor grabbed his gun and west outside to help the woman. He said he tried to get the dogs off of her but had to shoot two of them. The third dog ran from the scene before deputies arrived.

The woman was treated at the scene by medical personnel then transported to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Care Center. She needed 45 staples in her head area to close bite wounds.

The Australian Shepherd was treated for multiple puncture wounds.

The pit bull puppy was turned over to Cochise County Animal Control officers for a 10-day quarantine before he is euthanized. One of the boxers was found dead a short distance from the scene. The second boxer was euthanized by Animal Control officers.

The dogs' owner has been cited.
