PHOENIX -- Carrie Speckman and her husband, Marty, watch a lot of television and some of their favorite programming is watching how folks flip and sell homes for big money.

So, when the Speckmans received something in the mail about learning how to flip homes, it piqued their curiosity.

"I thought, you know, great. We can flip a house and make 20, 30 or 40 grand, you know, depending on the house," Marty said.

The material was from a company called Insider's Edge Education.

The Speckmans wound up spending more than $3,000 with the company by going to their seminars and buying educational material.

"Carrie has a background in real estate," Marty said. "She's worked for a contractor so she really felt like she could do it."

Carrie and Marty felt so confident that they paid Insider's Edge Education an additional $12,000 on their credit card for something called a "Las Vegas Building Summit" where clients would be taken around Vegas and shown property to possibly flip.

But, after paying all that money, Carrie was diagnosed with cancer and forced to go through radiation treatment.

A tearful Carrie says, "Healthwise, I had no way of predicting that the treatments were not going to work on me or that I was going to become this tired and fatigued."

Unable to attend the Las Vegas Summit, the couple asked for their $12,000 back.

They say they called Insider's Edge Education several times and even mailed the company a certified letter but claim they were always told, "No."

Marty and his wife say they were frustrated.

"I said, 'So if my wife died would you give me my money back?' And they said no." Marty said.

"We were hoping that they would at least, morally, say these people are hurting and they need a break.  They can't do it," Carrie said.

3 On Your Side contacted the Insider's Edge Education and after looking into the matter for me, the company agreed to give the Speckmans a full $12,000 refund.

In a statement to 3 On Your Side, the company says, "The first time we heard of the complaint we immediately responded with a full refund - as has been our business practice for years."

Carrie and Marty say they couldn't be happier with 3 On Your Side's involvement and request for a refund because Carrie just isn't up to flipping houses.

"I can't do it. I don't have the strength to do it.," Carrie said.

An attorney who represents Insider's Edge Education tells 3 On Your Side that the company found no formal requests from the Speckmans for a refund.
