SOMERTON, Ariz. -- A Somerton police officer was arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud following an investigation by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

Somerton police Chief Benjamin Cotman asked the sheriff's office to investigate Officer Felipe Navarro after an alleged victim complained.

Navarro was booked Friday into the Yuma County Jail on charges of fraudulent schemes and theft, both felonies.

According to the sheriff's office, the charges stem from alleged theft through misrepresentation when Navarro allegedly attempted to sell a vehicle that did not exist.

The case remains under investigation and sheriff's office investigators are seeking anyone with knowledge concerning this case or other potential victims.
