Woman killed in single-vehicle rollover on Loop 202 Red Mountain FreewayPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- One person was killed in an early morning single-vehicle crash on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.
The eastbound lanes of Loop 202 were closed at Higley Road, which is exit 21 in north Mesa. That closure ran all the way to Recker Road.
Details were not immediately available, but the Mesa Fire Department said the rollover happened at about 5 a.m., and confirmed that the woman who was driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aerial video from the scene showed where the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and went up on to the embankment. The vehicle eventually came to rest in the HOV lane.
Investigators have not released any information about the woman behind the wheel.
It's not yet known what might have caused her to lose control of her vehicle.
The closure between Higley and Recker roads was in place for about four hours. That stretch of roadway reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
