CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested five people Saturday during a crime suppression/ID theft operation in Chandler.
Acting on a tip, MCSO spokesman Christopher Hegstrom said deputies raided the Si Señor restaurant near Ray and Alma School roads just before 5 p.m.
Officials said restaurant management was not only aware some employees were using fake names, but may have solicited the help of others to get usable names and/or Social Security numbers. One of those arrested was using the identity of a Gilbert teenager who died in May.
MCSO arrested four people for suspected ID theft and another for being in the country illegally.
According to MCSO, this was the 56th employer sanction/identity theft operation since the sheriff's office began them three years ago.
