SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has been chosen to serve as grand marshal of the Fiesta Bowl parade.

Bowl officials made the announcement Wednesday.

The 41st annual parade is scheduled for Dec. 31 on the streets of central Phoenix.

Gibson was recently named National League Manager of the Year for leading the Diamondbacks to a 94-68 record in his first full season as the franchise won its fifth division title.

As grand marshal, Gibson also will serve as special guest at the Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl football game in Glendale, where he will participate in the pre-game festivities and the coin toss.
