Phoenix hoarder calling for help this holiday seasonPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- It’s estimated that there are more than 1 million hoarders living in the United States; it's unknown how many live in Arizona.
For the first time, a Phoenix woman peeled back the curtains and exposed her secret.
“Some of it is my son's, some is my nephew's,” said Christy, who did not want to use her last name.
The hoard of stuff is piled so high it almost touches the ceiling.
“I don't feel safe getting in and out of the shower anymore,” Christy said.
Even inhaling the air is tough. 3TV’s photographer nearly got sick within seconds of stepping inside the home.
The problems don't stop there.
“My furnace needs to be fixed," Christy said. "I’m just shivering from the cold down to my bones."
That's when a friend, Robert Moore with Christ’s Community Church in Glendale, stepped up to the plate and loaned Christy a space heater.
“My heart was hurt because she's crying out for help,” Moore said.
“God just put it together immediately because he knew I couldn't bear to be in this house because it was so cold,” Christy said.
The 60-year-old can't afford to fix the furnace and with the fear of a fire now mounting, she is afraid.
“It is dangerous and I’m aware of that," Christy said. "I just pray a lot.”
Christy also faces colossal fines for mountains of furniture, clothing and more stuff piled outside.
“It's such a hard thing and you feel so ashamed,” Christy said.
The woman is now ready to make some changes and said she will throw things out.
If you would like to help Christy fix the furnace or offer guidance on how to help, please send an email to Moore at email@example.com or call his cellphone at 602-463-4411.
