Tucson headlines: Rollover victim ID'd; Pedestrian killed by car; Fatal roommate stabbing; Purse snatcher

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The man killed in a rollover accident on I-10 in Vail yesterday has been identified. Sheriff's deputies say 27-year-old Dustin Shawano was killed when his Chevy sedan flipped over into the center median.

An abrupt lane change by another driver caused Shawano to lose control after over-correcting while moving at a high speed.

He was wearing a seat belt, and was not ejected from his car.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- At about 8 Tuesday morning, a woman was struck and killed while crossing the street at the intersection of Broadway and Rosemont.

Police say 36-year old Tina Rieger of Tucson was in the cross walk when a Chevy pick-up truck turned left and hit her.

The truck's driver, 60-year-old Frances Laurelez, was cited for one count of causing death by a moving violation, a misdemeanor.

No evidence of alcohol use or excessive speed was found.



TUCSON, Ariz. -- A midtown fight early Sunday morning left 26-year-old Craig Alcorta of Tucson dead.

The incident happened at the Country Club Terrace apartments, near Country Club and Blacklidge.

Police arrested 24-year-old Louie Childs, charged him with first degree murder, and booked him in the Pima County jail.

Police say Childs and the victim were roommates and got into a fight that led to the fatal stabbing.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sheriff's deputies are asking for help catching a purse-snatcher who's working with a get-away driver.

The pair of thieves have committed two other robberies, and they struck again Sunday afternoon at the Safeway store on Sunrise and Swan.

Security cameras show a white male in his late teens or early twenties, about 6' tall, grab a woman's purse, then hop into a gold SUV.

The driver almost runs over the victim while trying to get away.

He's described as another white male in his twenties with short brown hair.  Anyone with information should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
