PHOENIX (AP) -- Gov. Jan Brewer has ordered that the American flag be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all state buildings around Arizona from sunrise until sunset Wednesday on the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Brewer is encouraging individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in the tribute.
She says it's to honor the patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice through their service at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Dec. 7, 1941. The surprise Japanese bombings that day triggered World War II.
The USS Arizona was sunk at its berth by the Japanese attack. The ship's anchor remains on display just steps from the State Capitol at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix.
