MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police arrested a woman who told them she shot her boyfriend during a fight at their home near Southern Avenue and Sossaman Road Sunday night.

Donna Diaz, 52, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Thomas Mark Wakeham.

Diaz called 911 to report the shooting.  According to police, Diaz said Wakeham accused her of having an affair after looking at her cellphone.

Diaz said they got into a struggle and she got away then grabbed a handgun. Diaz said she pointed the gun at Wakeham to scare him and the gun went off and struck him.
After being shot, Diaz said Wakeham yelled at her and advanced toward her. Diaz said she then shot him a second time.

Police said Wakeham was shot three times and died at the scene.

According to investigators, the evidence they found was inconsistent with Diaz’s version of those events.
