MESA, Ariz. -- A 19-year-old man and his 6-year-old brother were injured when their scooter collided with a pickup truck in Mesa Friday night.
Police said Elias Redden and his younger brother were riding a black 2008 Shanghai Meitian scooter westbound on University Drive at about 7:15 p.m.
The scooter was attempting to make a left turn onto Horne when it turned into the path of a silver 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, according to Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing.
The brothers sustained serious injuries in the collision. The 6-year-old suffered a broken right femur, tibia and fibula and is expected to recover. Redden suffered a broken pelvis, extensive injuries to his lower extremities and significant head injuries. His injuries are considered life-threatening.
The driver of the truck, Robin Boatman, was not injured in the collision. Wessing said Boatman was evaluated on-scene and no impairment was found.
