Winter blast moves across ArizonaPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The first of two winter storms moves into Arizona today, with heavy snow a possibility in northern and eastern Arizona and rain possible in the Valley. Snow levels could come down to 4,500 feet, with 8 to 12 inches expected in Flagstaff.
Between this storm and the next one on Saturday, the White Mountains of eastern Arizona could be blanketed with up to 2 feet of snow!
Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, warning of heavy snow and blowing snow Thursday and Friday. A wind advisory was also in place for western and far eastern Arizona for wind gusts expected up to 55 miles an hour.
The Valley will see cool, unsettled weather through the weekend with afternoon highs in the 50s and overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. There will be a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain Thursday through late Saturday, although rainfall totals are expected to be light, under a quarter of an inch.
Although more sunshine is expected next week, temperatures don't look much warmer.
