Statewide DUI task force kickoffPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- An official kick off Tuesday night for a task force with the goal of keeping drunk drivers off the roads this holiday season.
To kick off the state's holiday DUI enforcement campaign, the slogan, "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed."
Simple enough right? Well, not according to the numbers.
"We're very committed to the task force and very committed to this enforcement effort but last year we arrested over 5,000 people for DUI. Five thousand people in the course of a year and that's too many," said Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner.
This year's press conference featured six new DUI processing vehicles paid for by a generous $1 million grant from the federal government.
The task force will run from December 1 through January 1, encouraging people to get a designated driver, not a DUI.
