Capitol room to be renamed in honor of January 8 victim ZimmermanPosted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives is paying tribute to the right hand man of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Gabe Zimmerman was killed in the Safeway shooting on January 8. Now, the House is set to rename a room in its Capitol visitors center in his honor.
"... it's incredibly important to Gabby, to Gabby's entire team, that Gabe who she was so close to and he was such a special individual, someone who really made public service a career choice, was a social worker, someone who took his work very seriously in taking care of her constituents, and taking care of her and so now this is a way that we can take care of his memory," said U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz from Florida.
Zimmerman was just 30 years old, and engaged to be married when he was shot to death in January.
Officials say he is the first congressional staff member to be murdered in the line of duty.
