Chandler man dead in officer-involved shootingPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A Chandler man is dead and a police officer is on administrative leave after a shooting in a neighborhood near Rural Road and Chandler Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
The suspect, who lived in the neighborhood, showed up at another neighbor's home and allegedly threatened a man with a gun. The man's wife called 911 after the suspect rode off on a bike.
Chandler police came to the neighborhood and started to look for him. Many neighbors also called in his whereabouts when they would see him biking down their street. When officers finally caught up with him, the suspect ditched his bike and ran off.
Officer Kyle Kinnaman chased after him. When the suspect turned and pointed his gun at Kinnaman, the officer fired.
Police identified the suspect as Adam Buckner, 39. Police are still trying to determine the reasons behind the suspect's alleged threats.
Kinnaman, 28, is on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocal in these types of incidents. He has been with the Chandler Police Department for 11 months.
The investigation is ongoing.
