Tim Ring: ASU will have to move quickly to replace Dennis Erickson

PHOENIX -- After another lackluster football season, Dennis Erickson reportedly is out as head coach at Arizona State University.

The details have not been finalized, but Erickson was expected to meet with Lisa Love, ASU's athletic director, some time Monday. It's not clear if Erickson will be fired or if he will be allowed to retire after coaching in whatever bowl the Sun Devils draw.

Arizona State started with a promising 6-2 and the possibility of playing in the first Pac-12 championship game, but the Sun Devils lost their last four games. that knocked them out of contention for the league championship.

Erickson came to Tempe in 2007, and is 31-30 after five seasons.

Tim Ring, 3TV's sports director, says ASU will need to move quickly to find a replacement for Erickson. He also said the Sun Devils are much better than their 6-6 season might indicate.
