Argument leads to shooting at Phoenix apartment complex

PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting near Central and Southern avenues early Friday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex at 40 E. Sunland Ave. and found the victim lying in the parking lot, according to Sgt. Steve Martos.

Phoenix Fire personnel transported the 36-year-old victim to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Homicide detectives said the two individuals involved in the incident were engaged in a verbal altercation, which turned physical. The suspect retrieved a weapon and shot the victim then fled the area.
Investigators believe the suspect is known to the victim, but Martos said the motive or reason for the altercation is unknown at this time.

Police are still looking for the suspect described as a 27-year-old black male.
