LAKE MONTEZUMA, Ariz. -- Authorities in Yavapai County are searching for a man who reportedly tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl in the Rimrock area Tuesday night.

The girl told sheriff's deputies that she was walking to a friend's house about 8 p.m. when a van approached her in the 4900 block of Cochise Drive in Lake Montezuma.

The van stopped and the driver rolled down the window then asked if she wanted to play Xbox 360 with him, according to sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn. When she said she was not interested, he asked her to come into the van and play with his puppy. She refused and ran toward her friend's home.

The child said the driver started following her and she heard him say, "I'm going to get you." When she reached the front door of her friend's home, he drove away.

The girl described the van as white with black, red, orange and white flames painted on the left side and orange, yellow and green circles or "bubbles" on the right side.

D'Evelyn said the victim could not see the man clearly as the window he spoke through was only open about 3 inches. She estimated his age at 30 and described his hair as black.

Extra patrols have been ongoing since the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the van and/or suspect is asked to contact YCSO at 928-771-3260 or the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 928-554-8801. If the van is seen, call 911. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
