Update to case involving Valley pastor

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- Pastor Gerald Brenner told 3 On Your Side in September that he would pay back Veronica Dilena by the time our news report aired that night.

Dilena paid Brenner $4,100 to move her mobile home in May, but Dilena says Brenner took her money and never did the job.

Brenner maintains it was a simple misunderstanding.

Dilena says she tried to get her money back but couldn't and wound up filing a lawsuit against Brenner in justice court.

Despite Brenner telling 3 On Your Side he would refund all of Dilena's money, she says he's only returned $1,200 out of the $4,100 he took from her.

“It's sickening,” Dilena said. “It makes me not want to trust anybody that has anything to do with the church.”

So, it looks like the case will have to be resolved in court next month when a jury will hear the details. Details that allege Brenner used someone else's license in order to look legit.

In an email to 3 On Your Side, Brenner didn't say why he's only paid a portion of the money back, only that he wants to be heard in court.

The trial has been set for Dec. 8.

3 On Your Side will continue to monitor the case and bring you any new updates.
