Francisco Rojas Torrez By Jennifer Thomas
PHOENIX -- A woman is in the hospital after her estranged boyfriend allegedly shot her during a domestic violence dispute early Tuesday morning. The couple's children were home at the time.
Residents in the neighborhood of 49th Avenue and Melody Lane, which is southeast of 51st Avenue and Baseline Road, reported hearing gunfire at about 1:30 a.m.
When police arrived at the home, they found a 32-year-old woman who had been shot twice. The woman was shot once in the shoulder and the second bullet grazed her face. She was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening wounds. She is listed in serious but stable condition.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said there was an order of protection in effect against the woman's estranged boyfriend, Francisco Rojas Torrez, 32, but the victim agreed to let him come over to their house.
Thompson said they began to argue and Torrez shot the victim then fled on foot.
Police took Torrez into custody Tuesday afternoon.
While the woman's four children were home when all of this happened, they were not injured. It's not clear how much the kids saw and heard.
