Senate: Pierce replaces Pearce in State Senate; Carmona to run for U.S. Senate

State Senate Republicans have replaced one Pearce with another.

Prescott Senator Steve Pierce was chosen by a narrow margin to replace recalled Senator Russell Pearce as Senate president.

Steve Pierce won the position by one vote.

Russell Pearce was recalled by Phoenix voters in Tuesday's election.

Tucsonan and former Surgeon General Richard Carmona is running for the U.S. Senate.

Carmona served as surgeon general under President George W. Bush.

He has been aggressively recruited by democrats since leaving that office.

Carmona moved back to Tucson after his job ended as surgeon general.

He will be running in the February primary for the seat currently occupied by retiring Senator John Kyl.
