Lance Jungemeyer, Fresh Produce Assn. of the Americas, says trucks are at the heart of the produce business…and Nogales is a key port of entry. He says an “overweight permit” was recently introduced to accommodate Mexican trucks, which can be loaded heavier than what U.S. trucks are allowed.  He says Mexican trucks had to off-load 10,000 pounds at the border, an expensive process and a delay as well.  Now, he says, for $75.00 per load, Mexican truckers can obtain a permit that will allow the truck to enter 25 miles into the U.S. without off-loading, saving time and money, and generating revenue for Arizona’s Highway User Fund.
