Changes to national EAS testPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- There have been some changes to a nationwide emergency alert scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
The multimedia test was originally slated to be three minutes and would include an address from President Barack Obama.
Now the alert is expected to be about 30 seconds and it will appear as a scrolling banner along the bottom of your TV screen.
Pima County Emergency Management explained the reason behind the change.
"So we're concerned that this is going to be something that the public panics over and calls 911 and overwhelms our 911 system," said Jeff Guthrie from the Pima County Emergency Management.
The alert will be broadcast on TV, cable, radio and satellite radio.
