PHOENIX -- The mother of a 3-year-old girl who police say was beaten to death by her stepfather for not eating a hot dog and talking back is facing charges.

Ambreatte Daniels, 23, was booked into jail on one count of child abuse. Her bond was set at $200,000.

Investigators determined that Daniels knew her husband was physically abusing her daughter, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. Police said they found pictures of the girl's injuries on Daniels' cell phone. The dates of the pictures ranged from Sept. 3 to Oct. 13.

Police said Corey Daniels severely beat Dani Mayo with his fists and a belt on Oct. 27. The child died a short time later. Daniels, 22, faces murder charges.

Doctors said Dani suffered multiple skull fractures, bruises, retinal hemorrhages, and bleeding and swelling in the brain.
