PHOENIX (AP) -- A jury has found that a man convicted of killing nine people in the so-called Baseline Killer case is eligible for the death penalty.

The jury found that there are five factors that make Mark Goudeau eligible for the death penalty, including that eight of the murders were especially cruel.

The defense must now present mitigating factors arguing for a life sentence at a hearing Wednesday.

Once that happens, the jury will decide whether to sentence 47-year-old Goudeau to death or life in prison.

The jury found him guilty of nine counts of murder and 58 other charges Monday, including kidnapping and rape.
