State issues high pollution advisory for FridayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- A high pollution advisory has been issued for the Phoenix area for Friday. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality says strong winds are predicted in some areas.
Forecasters say a cold front is expected to sweep across the region Friday with strong winds developing midmorning. Residents are asked to minimize off-road driving or driving on dirt roads. During a high pollution advisory contractors are prohibited from using leaf blowers on governmental property.
Hotels, restaurants and residents must refrain from burning wood in their indoor fireplaces and outdoor fire pits during the advisory. Open burning is also restricted.
ADEQ recommends that children and adults with respiratory problems avoid outdoor activities Friday and suggests the general public limit outdoor activity throughout the day.
