Neil Patrick Harris: It's fun to play 'myself' in Harold & Kumar movies

PHOENIX -- As he has in the previous two Harold & Kumar flicks, Neil Patrick Harris once again plays movie and TV star Neil Patrick Harris in "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas." No Harold and Kumar adventure would be complete without him.

While his persona in the movie is based on himself, Harris says it really is a character.

"Honestly, I kind of like the blurring of those lines," Harris said. "I'm not super squeaky clean, milquetoast guy in my real life so it's not like I'm making fun of my being that way by being hard-core the other way.

"I get that dark sense of humor," he continued. "And yet, it's clearly not me. It's kind of nice that it's kind of muddy and you're not sure what's what."

This Harold & Kumar installment picks up six years after the events of the last movie, "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay," and in true Harold-and-Kumar style, mayhem and hilarity ensue.

John Cho reprises his role as Harold while Kal Penn returns as Kumar.

"A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas," the third Harold & Kumar movie, opens Friday. It's rated R for "strong crude and sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language, drug use and some violence."
