PHOENIX -- A cab driver is in the hospital after her passenger assaulted her rather than pay his fare early Tuesday morning.
It happened at about 3:30 a.m. at the suspect's apparent destination, an apartment complex at 43rd Avenue and Ocotillo Road, which is south of Glendale Avenue.
The driver was attempting to collect payment for the trip when the suspect attacked her, detectives said.
According to police, the woman had marks all over her neck consistent with physical assault, but they were not sure if she had been sexually assaulted, as well. The woman was taken to a local hospital, but her condition was not immediately available.
Investigators do not know if the suspect actually lives in the apartment complex where the assault took place or if it was simply an address that he gave the driver. It's not known where the driver picked up the passenger.
Police are searching for the suspect, but they have only a vague description of him. They have not released any details about the suspect.
