TUCSON, Ariz. -- A longtime TUSD board member has unexpectedly died.
Judy Burns suffered a heart attack last night. She had been a member of the governing board since 2001, serving as president in 2009. She was currently serving as clerk. Her colleagues on the board will miss her and see it as a big loss to the community.
"She served our district over 25 years as a parent, a volunteer and advocate also as a board member. Most people will remember her as a strong advocate for students and for the staff members to ensure that they worked at a great place and the students received a quality education," said TUSD Board President Miguel Cuevas.
Judy Burns was 63 years old. It is still uncertain whether the board will seek to replace Burns. Her term was set to end next year.
