Pima County Sheriff looking for person who tortured and killed kitten

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Pima County Sheriff's Department is asking for help to find the person responsible for torturing and killing a small kitten.

It was on October 6 that Pima County sheriff's deputies were alerted to a kitten on the road near Swan and Sunrise.

"He or she was actually tortured.  It wasn't just a someone lashing out at an animal.  This was somebody who took their time and effort to do a pretty loathsome, despicable act," said Capt. Chris Nanos from the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

After conducting forensic tests on the kitten which is a Maine coon breed.  The sheriff's office says the pet suffered severe injuries before it died, "Bruising, fractured skull, strangulation there's just a number of things going on with that kitty."

PCSD called Wednesday's press conference to get help in the case. They have no leads and in fact the search is on for the owner.

"We believe somebody out there knows who this kitten belongs to, we don't even have that. Somebody is missing a little kitty.  We would like to hear from those people.  Maybe they can get us pointed in the right direction," said Capt. Nanos.

Deputies have gone to the neighborhood, asked around and even posted fliers, but still nothing.

The hope is that with the help of 88-CRIME, someone will come forward with information to solve the act of animal cruelty.

"It's a baby kitten.  You're going to take that little defenseless creature and do those things to it?  That is despicable.  This crime needs to be solved," said Nanos.

The person or persons responsible for the crime will face felony animal cruelty charges.

There is a reward of $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information or interested in adding to the reward is asked to call 88-CRIME.
