Early Halloween for some UMC childrenPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Halloween came early for children at UMC Tuesday.
A local charity called "The Spirit of Children" held a Halloween Party Tuesday for kids.
For the last five years, the program's volunteers have been taking Halloween festivities into hospitals for children who can't go out trick-or-treating due to their illnesses.
"I think it really helps normalize the hospital. It can be a very scary place and when the families are here they miss out on a lot of different things. They don't get to be at home. They don't get to go buy Halloween costumes and candy like they normally would and so this really helps make life a little bit more normal for them," said Sarena Rogers from UMC Diamond Children's Center.
So far, spirit of children has raised more than $4.5 million for hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.
