PHOENIX (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to natural life in prison in connection with a Phoenix homicide last year.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 20-year-old Tommy McKey Reed was sentenced Friday in the April 2010 killing of Mark G. Woodland.

The 54-year-old Woodland was found dead in his apartment after police were called to do a welfare check on him.

Authorities say he was badly beaten and stabbed repeatedly in a downstairs bathroom. They say Woodland's wallet was found open and empty in the home's living room.

Reed and Woodland reportedly met through a social network. Reed was arrested days after the killing and prosecutors say he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder earlier this year.
