TUCSON, Ariz. -- The surgeon who treated Gabrielle Giffords in January attending a state dinner at the White House Thursday night.
President Obama invited Doctor Peter Rhee and his wife to the occasion honoring the visiting President of South Korea.
Doctor Rhee and his team cared for multiple victims of the attack, and they were instrumental in saving the Congresswoman's life following the Safeway shootings.
"This is also an opprotunity for me to bring trauma surgery into Korea. As far ahead as they are technologically, there are some things they're not very good at. And one of those things is they don't have as good of a trauma system, as good as we do here in the U.S.," said Dr. Rhee.
It's not his first invitation from the White House. Doctor Rhee also attended the January State of the Union address as First Lady Michelle Obama's guest.
