Mining opposition insulted by owner's no-show at public meetingPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- It was supposed to be an olive branch, but it ended up being an insult.
A group that has long opposed mining in the old Andrada Quarry near Vail was supposed to meet with the owner of the mining site but he didn't show up at Monday night's public meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to learn more about the reclamation process, but the Empire Fagan Coalition had hoped to form a better relationship with the owner .
"So we thought in our community, let's invite the people who are our enemies our adversaries and let's talk about it, ask questions, and no one gets bent out of shape you know everyone is polite," said Mike Carson from the Empire-Fagan Coalition.
A consultant for the mining property, did show up to answer technical questions.
