TUCSON, Ariz. -- Patients at Diamond Children's Medical Center were feeling the need for speed Sunday.

"Laps for Life" founder Peter Davis brought his Formula One style race kart to a couple of floors.

The children had a chance to sit behind the wheel and hang out with a champion race kart driver who participates in "Laps for Life" every year.

"People care about them and it gives me an open mind set of different problems people have and how fortunate I am to have my health," said kart racer Mariah McGriff.

"Laps for Life" is a 24 hour kart endurance race that benefits the Diamond Children's Cancer Center.

This year's event will be held October 29 at Musselman Honda circuit on North Stone Avenue.
