Victim in fatal I-10 crash identifiedPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died in a fatal wreck Saturday evening along westbound Interstate 10 in Chandler.
DPS says Thomas Liggett, 51, of Tempe was behind the wheel of a car that left the road and hit a tree.
It happened just before 6:30 p.m. under the Ray Road overpass.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, the Arizona Department of Transportation camera just south of Chandler Boulevard showed a significant backup on the Ray Road exit ramp. The sea of red brake lights made it look more like a parking lot than a freeway ramp.
The westbound lanes of I-10 were closed for several hours, but have since reopened.
It's not clear what caused Liggett's car to leave the roadway. Liggett reportedly was not wearing a seat belt.
