Golden Grannies auditioning new members this weekend

PHOENIX -- Gold pants and gold shoes, in their golden years. With a description like that, you can only be referring to the Golden Grannies. For the last seven years they have been rocking the US Airways crowd during the Phoenix Suns' games.  With their high energy and choreographed dance moves, it's hard not to smile when you see them in action.

The Golden Grannies are looking for a few more seniors to join them for the upcoming 2011-2012 Suns season.  If you're a senior, have a great personality, high energy and can perform in front of large crowds they want you.

"Come on down!" said Laverna Rodriguez, 83, who has been dancing with the Golden Grannies for the last four years. "It's a lot of fun. There are good women to meet and it's great exercise."

She along with the other past Golden Grannies have to audition every year to make the team. The squad is looking for close to 40 new members.

Auditions are tomorrow, Oct. 8, 9 a.m. at US Airways Center. Parking is free in the parking garage.

For more information you can call Kip Helt at 602-379-7951 or via email khelt@suns.com.

Editor's note: Javier Soto got out on the floor to dance with the Golden Grannies. We think you'll agree: He's got some moves!
